Recover passwords from asterisks: ******** -> MySeCrEt

What does it do for me?
Some programs show the current password in a password box (asterisks) from where you can revover it. For example in your Outlook account settings, or the saved passwords of Internet Explorer for different web sites.

If all you can see are asterisks, with 12-Password now you can make the password visible again. Simply move the mouse cursor over the password field to recover the password.

Where should I start?
Just start 12-Password and move the mouse cursor over the password edit field (asterisks box). The password will be displayed immediately. It is also copied to the 12-Password dialog box where you may copy it to the clipboard.

Note, however, that some programs, for security reasons, may not display the current password at all.

Advanced Archive Password Recovery

Advanced Archive Password Recovery (or ARCHPR for short) can be used to recover lost or forgotten passwords to ZIP (PKZip, WinZip), ARJ/WinARJ, RAR/WinRAR and ACE/WinACE (1.x) archives. At the moment, there is no known method to extract the password from such compressed files, so the only available methods are "brute force" and dictionary attacks (for ARJ and ZIP formats, known-plaintext attack is also available). 

The key features of ARCHPR are: 
  • Guaranteed decryption (usually, within the hour) of most WinZip archives (with 5+ encrypted files) is available; it works regardless the password complexity and length 
  • The program has a convenient user interface 
  • The program is very fast: on 1GHz CPU, it tests about fifteen million passwords per second (or about a billion passwords per minute) -- according to independent reviewers and experts, the fastest ZIP cracker in the world! 
  • Known plainext attack is available 
  • The program can work with archives containing only one encrypted file only (at the same speed) 
  • Self-extracting archives are supported 
  • The program is customizable: you can set the password length (or length range), the character set to be used to generate the passwords, and a lot of other options 
  • You can select the custom character set for brute-force attack (non-English characters are supported) 
  • Dictionary-based attack is available 
  • The "brute-force with mask" attack is available 
  • The maximum password length is not limited (there are some practical limitations, though) 
  • No special virtual memory requirements 
  • You can interrupt the program at any time, and restart from the same point later 
  • The program can work in the background, using the CPU only when it is in idle state

In fact, ARCHPR accumulates all the features of Advanced ZIP Password Recovery and Advanced RAR Password Recovery, can also break password-protected ACE 1.x and ARJ archives, and supports Guaranteed WinZip attack, not available in Advanced ZIP Password Recovery.

Advanced PDF Password Recovery 1.50

This program (Advanced PDF Password Recovery, or simply APDFPR) can be used to decrypt protected Adobe Acrobat PDF files, which have "owner" password set, preventing the file from editing (changing), printing, selecting text and graphics (and copying them into the Clipboard), or adding/changing annotations and form fields (in any combination). Decryption is being done instantly. Decrypted file can be opened in any PDF viewer (e.g. Adobe Acrobat Reader) without any restrictions -- i.e. with edit/copy/print functions enabled. The program is also able to convert Kinko's Document Format (KDF) files to PDF files (without any protection). 

Please note that APDFPR does not work with documents which have user-level passwords (preventing the files from being opened), if both user and owner passwords are unknown. 

Professional edition also allows to search for "owner" and "user" passwords with brute-force and dictionary attacks, effectively optimized for speed (however, don't expect to recover long passwords in a resonable time with these attacks). In addition, it has Key search attack, which guarantees the decryption (regardless the password length and complexity) of PDF files that use 40-bit encryption (the attack takes about 3-4 days on modern dual-CPU systems). 

Warning: APDFPR APDFPR Pro do NOT work on Mac computers with Virtual PC; unfortunately, it seems to be a problem of Virtual PC itself. Also, PDF files protected with any 3rd party security plug-ins such as FileOpen (FOPN_fLock) are not supported.

  • Windows 95/98/ME logon password (when user is logged on)

  • .NET Passport password

  • passwords and access rights to shared resources 

Other information that could be recovered by AWPR is LSA Secrets; the program also allows to run any programs in other user's context, show password histrory hashes, read and decrypt password hashes directly from Registry files (SAM and SYSTEM), perform brute-force and dictionary attacks on Windows 9x PWL files, backup Registry files and Active Directory database from local or remote computer, and decrypt product ID and CD key for Windows and Microsoft Office installations. 

Please note that AWPR cannot recover Administrator's password if you have lost it and can log only with 'Guest', 'User' or 'Restricted User' privileges. Some other features also require 'Administrator' privileges; see help file for details.
